Hello! With Steam Next Fest starting on June 10th, we have a lot to cover this week, so let’s get going! Remember, the article has 2 pages, so make sure you get to the second one!
Marvel’s Midnight Suns Free On Epic Games Store
Marvel fans and tactical RPG enthusiasts rejoice! Firaxis Games’ Marvel’s Midnight Suns is now available for free on the Epic Games Store. This dark and gritty adventure puts players in command of a team of legendary heroes like Iron Man, Wolverine, Captain America, and even Ghost Rider and Blade, as they face a supernatural threat unlike alongside the titular Midnight Suns and The Hunter. It’s one of my favourite games of all time and one that I really enjoy going back to time and again.
Civilization VII Announced
Civilization fans were thrilled at Summer Games Fest 2024 with the official announcement of Civilization VII, 8 years after Civilization VI. A beautiful cinematic trailer, shrouded in mystery, gave glimpses of various eras – from camel caravans, and the pyramids of Ancient Egypt to a Space Age rocket– hinting at the vast scope players have grown used to. While details about gameplay remain under wraps until August, there’s confirmation that Civilization VII will launch in 2025 on PC and consoles alike (including Xbox, Playstation, and Nintendo Switch).
Hooded Horse Full Next Fest Line-Up
Strategy games publisher darling, Hooded Horse has announced its full line-up before the Steam Next Fest, and city-builders appear to be the theme. Here are the games:
- Beyond These Stars – City-builder set on a space-whale;
- Blacksmith Master – Manage your own medieval smithy kind of game;
- Super Fantasy Kingdom– Cute rogue-lite city-builder where you fight hordes of monsters;
- Heart of the Machine – Turn-based sci-fi 4X where you play as a sentient machine intelligence, will you use your power for good? Or evil?
- Fata Deum – A God Game inspired by games like Populous and Black&White.
By the way, Workers&Resources: Soviet Republic has a new DLC titled Biomes.
Panzer Corps 2 : War Stories – Fall of Poland
Panzer Corps 2 announced a brand new War Stories: Fall of Poland DLC. Unlike the series’ usual focus on leading the forces of bigger nations, this campaign puts you in command of the Polish army as they desperately defend their homeland against the invading German Blitzkrieg in September 1939.
This “War Story” shakes things up a bit. The Flashback Games team is revamping the way “Briefing characters” work: by placing these “in the heat of the conflict”. These are now “Key Characters” that you’d do good by keeping alive across the campaign.
There are 14 new scenarios in this expansion, and the game’s going to add 21 new German and Polish units. Panzer Corps 2: Fall of Poland has a targeted release for Summer 2024.
RTS Battles Aces Announced
The real-time strategy game Battles Aces was announced during the Summer Game Fest by Uncapped Games, a new studio with genre veterans. I almost rolled my eyes when I heard, again that the game is “getting rid of the boring elements” of RTS games to make it more “fast-paced” and, somehow, more strategic. I’m curious to see how it will measure up against the highly-anticipated Tempest Rising and Stormgate.
