Paradox’s Take On Civilization, Millennia Out Now

Paradox has his hand in nearly every strategy subgenre. Want to lead your nation? Here are Hearts of Iron 4Victoria 3 and Crusader Kings 3 for you. Turn-based tactics? Well, The Lamplighters League came out last year. Tycoon and Management? Boot up Cities: Skylines 2 or Prison Architect

After the successful launch of Age of Wonders 4, a game that was critically acclaimed by pretty much everyone who enjoyed 4X titles, Paradox has decided it was time to launch Millennia, a direct competitor to the much-beloved Civilization series.

Millennia does a couple of interesting stuff, mainly with its military/combat system, that appears to be a lot more involved than Civilization’s simplistic IGO-UGO. Another cool feature is the idea of having parallel and alternate history ages. Imagine Steampunk, Utopias, and Futuristic stuff. It’s all very neat and different.

After perusing the early reviews of Millennia, a consensus appears to emerge: it’s an ambitious game, with cool new ideas, but it’s dragged down due to bad execution and flawed fundamentals.

The game costs $39.99 | 39,99€ | £34.99
