Strategy and Wargaming – 18th February – Jagged Alliance 3 Mods, WARNO Army General, WDS Game of the Week

Jagged Alliance 3 Major Update

One of the best Strategy Games of 2023, and one of the best Turn-Based Strategy games everJagged Alliance 3 is getting its first big update, “Larry”. This content update will introduce optional and variable rule sets: more enemies, longer time to level up, less ammunition, different Mercs costs, etc. Combine these as you wish to tailor-make a campaign just your own.

Moreover, this update will empower modders with the necessary tools to modify, enhance and reconstruct nearly every facet of the game. There are already more than 600 mods available at the Steam Workshop for Jagged Alliance 3.

WARNO Army General Update

The Grouchy milestone for WARNO came out and brought with it the anticipated Army General mode. Available now is the first Army General campaign, the Bruderkrieg, playable as both the NATO and Warsaw Pact forces- single-player only for the time being. The less experienced WARNO commanders can hone their skills on the recent 4 tutorials about the Army General mode.

Wargame Design Studio Game Of The Week

Wargame Design Studio has created a new program called “Game of the Week”. Simply put, every Monday, they’ll announce a new “Game of the Week” that will be on sale for $29.95. Apparently, everyone is loving this idea.

The current Game of the Week is Modern Campaigns: Danube Front ’85.

B-17 Flying Fortress: The Mighty 8th Redux Out

Somehow, this one escaped me, even though I saw a couple of videos some weeks back. B-17 Flying Fortress: The Mighty 8th Redux arrived in Early Access at the tail end of January. You didn’t read that wrong, the redux of a 23-year-old game came out… in Early Access.

Apparently, things are far from perfect, as the game is currently sitting at a mixed review rating on Steam, with only 123 reviews posted. Some of the positive reviews also comment on how buggy the game currently is. Hopefully, things will improve from now on!

The T’au have arrived in your Battlesector

The Warhammer 40,000 version of the Smurfs is finally coming to Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector. That’s right, the beloved T’au are here!

The most recent faction to reach Warhammer’s best turn-based title is composed of 14 iconic units you can now pit against the Blood Ravens, Orks, Necrons and the Sisters of Battle

When, in 2021, I wrote in my review that I was”expecting Battlesector to be used as a platform for other campaigns and factions. Get on with adding Ultramarines, Orks and Necrons. Do it, Black Labs.“, I never expected things to go this far. Now, the only thing that’s missing is a new campaign and some new environments.

Crusader Kings 3 New DLC Coming March

Crusader Kings III: Legends of the Dead is adding what Paradox calls: “Heroic gameplay”. You know how the nobility used to commission great works and chronicles from artists and writers for their family lines, most of the time embellishing it quite a lot? Well, that’s what this update is all about. You’ll be able to do exactly the same: hire chroniclers and commission epic stories about your family history and promote your family’s legacy. Then, you might then use said fame as leverage during your in-game actions and decisions.

Distante Worlds 2: Stellar Update

The masterfully crafted Distant Worlds 2 got a free, new update this week focusing on addressing stability issues and crashes. Alongside those, the Stellar update expanded the policy system and now offers guidance for automated research and ship design. A new Weapon and Component Focuses section has also been added to the Empire Policy settings. The game’s pathfinding has been massively improved and the AI underwent some redesigns, making it more dynamic and responsive.

  1. Battle Sector needs multiplayer mission-oriented battles. Scenarios for multiplayer like a good wargame has. And unit packs for the already-released factions.

  2. Consider starting a subreddit for Strat&Wargaming?

      1. I think so. You could check with the mods of wargames and computer wargames to see if you can cross post for awhile. It’s a small community but more respectful and interested in reading about the hobby. Worth a shot. That or just post your articles to those communities?
