Combat Mission Roadmap For 2024
The Combat Mission team has announced their plans for the next 12 months, and they include some exciting stuff, but let’s get the less savoury out of the way first: both Battlefront and Slitherine have decided to permanently shelve the Combat Mission: Black Sea expansion packs due to the ongoing war in Ukraine.
The Engine Upgrade 5 is also taking longer than expected to develop, so the team doesn’t know when they’ll have something ready to show.
Now, for the good stuff: the team is actually working on creating the next addition to their best game ever made, in my opinion- Combat Mission: Battle For Normandy– The Utah Beach Battle Pack. It will contain two large campaigns played from the perspective of the 82nd Airborne and the 101st Airborne Divisions. A smaller campaign will feature the 101st and the SS Panzer Grenadier Divisions. Here are a couple of screenshots from their Master Maps.
Combat Mission Fortress Italy is getting some love too, however no further details were announced, but there’s a Battle Pack on the works.
Combat Mission Cold War is getting its first Module, titled BAOR.
And last, but certainly not least, Combat Mission Final Blitzkrieg gets its new Module titled “Downfall“. A massive addition that brings Combat Mission Final Blitzkrieg to the bitter end of the Second World War, adding the Commonwealth forces and an assortment of the Third Reich’s last days formations. The module also contains 3 campaigns (totalling 24 missions), ten standalone scenarios, and a bucket load of quick battle maps.
Manage Your Own War Hospital
I don’t know what to make of War Hospital. The concept is amazingly interesting, but the lack of any substantial gameplay footage has me worried about its quality and lack of vision, I’m cheering for it to be an unexpected success and a tearjerker.
The game’s out on January 11th, and no price has been announced as of yet.
Dominions 6 Coming Out Next Week
The cult classic Dominions series is getting its sixth installment, titled “Rise of the Patonkrator“. The title isn’t something that rolls out of the tongue with ease, nor is learning Dominions. However, it’s undeniable that it’s probably one of the most complex 4X (if you can even call it that), titles around.
The team changed the armies and battlefield to be larger and more awe-inspiring and did some beneath-the-hood stuff to tweak the balance between conventional armies and magic. The second largest addition to the game is the addition of a new magic path. The third is the separation of mounts and riders.
Dominion sequels have always been the kind of incremental additions to the series, instead of being widely revolutionary things. So expect more of the same, but bigger and more fine-tuned.
I just bought Dominions 5 – Warriors of the Faith on the Steam Winter Sale, and it’s on my soon-to-be-played list.
Bryan Ansell Dead At 68
While not necessarily the focus of Strategy and Wargaming, I’ve covered enough Warhammer games to let you know that Bryan Ansell, one of the co-creators of Warhammer Fantasy Battle and the leader of Games Workshop in the 80s passed away on the 30th of December, 2023. May he rest in peace.
All Quiet In The Trenches Out January 17th
All Quiet In The Trenches is a really weird game, mixing up genres like the trenches of World War 1 were some kind of witches’ cauldron: it’s a narrative, turn-based, strategy RPG. I played the demo a while back, at the last Steam Fest, and playing it felt like a fever dream of controls and systems, but it definitely left me intrigued enough to keep it on my radar. Let’s see how this one turns out.
If you want to give the demo a go, it’s still available on the game’s Steam page.
Follow Strategy and Wargaming Socials
If you enjoy Strategy and Wargaming, then you need to follow its socials. Are we the best strategy gaming website around? I would say so. Heck, what other options do you have? The Wargamer? Please.
So why not give us a follow on the cesspool that is Twitter, or join the 1000 other geriatric patients on Facebook? Or subscribe down below? Or maybe do everything? I don’t care, I’m not your grandmother.

I’ve been running Strategy and Wargaming at my own expense since 2017, with only the ad-revenue to cover for the hosting, with everything else being done by me. It’s thanks to the goodwill of video game publishers like Slitherine, Hooded Horse, and others that I’m ab
