Christmas is right around the corner, and I won’t be able to update the site until after December 25th, so here’s what has been going on in the Strategy and Wargaming sphere!
Against The Storm Out Now
Strategy gaming darling Hooded Horse recently published Against the Storm– a rogue-like city-builder- to raving reviews and audience acclaim, with the game garnering an astounding 95% positive review rating on Steam, making it one of the best Strategy Games around, and possibly the best-rated strategy title of the year.
Wargame Design Studio Christmas Sale
Wargame Design Studio launched its yearly Winter Sale, and it will be running until January 3rd. As is always the case, all the games that have been out longer than 12 months will be reduced by 25% (to $29.95). Only for of the 111 available titles won’t be included, and these are Philippines ’44, Great Northern War, Orel ’43, and Thirty Years War.
If you purchase $199.00 or more you’ll get another 20% discount.
Creative Assembly Says They’re Sorry For Total War
After fumbling with the launch of Pharaoh and the price hike of Shadows of Change, the leadership behind Creative Assembly came forward to let everyone know that they were sorry. The statement reads “It has been a difficult few months, and we recognize that we have made mistakes when it comes to our relationship with you all”, and goes on to recognize the recent scuffles with the community led to “confusion, the frustration, and the distrust”.
The Shadows of Change expansion will get a major update, but most importantly, those who bought Pharaoh will get a partial refund of the game, because CA decided to lower its price to $39.99/€39.99/£29.99.
This goes to show that CA needs a couple of things done quickly: replace their community managers, and their communications team, and hire someone that understands what their audience wants to buy.
Workers & Resources: Soviet Republic Release Date
3DIVISION’s sophisticated sandbox economic city-builder Workers & Resources: Soviet Republic now has a release date, and it’s aiming for a 2024 release, 5 years after its early access debut. Soviet Republic is available on PC via Steam Early Access for $39.99 / £34.99 / €39.99.
Regiments – Winds of Change DLC
The Wargame-lite-inspired Regiments is getting a new DLC. This new expansion will bring procedural campaigns with the new Warfare mode; French, Dutch, Canadian and Czechoslovak regiments; will introduce heliborne troops and fighter jets.
Post Scriptum Gets a New Lease At Life
Post Scriptum has been acquired by Offworld Industries, and are now working with the team at Mercury Arts to develop new updates and content. With this acquisition, the game was rebranded to Squad ’44 to capitalize on the success of Squad’s brand, no doubt.
Peter Molyneux’s Game Godus No Longer For Sale
Snake oil salesman Peter Molyneux’s Godus is no longer available for sale on Steam, and will live forever in Early Access and Kickstarter infamy as a reminder that just because something is different, it doesn’t mean it’s decent. Good riddance, and may Peter’s Molyneux’s hands never touch a video game once again.
Follow Strategy and Wargaming Socials
Strategy and Wargaming need you to follow its socials. Are we the best strategy gaming website around? I would say so. Heck, what other options do you have? The Wargamer? Please.
So why not give us a follow on the cesspool that is Twitter, or join the 1000 other geriatric patients on Facebook? Or subscribe down below? Or maybe do everything? I don’t care, I’m not your grandmother.
