What Happened At Home of Wargamers?

Matrix Games came out swinging with some of the most exciting wargaming news of 2023! There’s also a massive sale, but I’ll pen another article about the best titles! Here’s the digest:

Armored Brigade II Announced

The unique (and underappreciated) Armored Brigade is getting a new entry, shifting from 2D to 3D, and it’s looking glorious! The game will also add a refined waypoint editor, and improve its spotting system and infantry mechanics.

Combat Mission Fortress Italy Available on Steam

The best World War II tactical wargame series ever devised is slowly taking over Steam. This time, the much beloved Combat Mission Fortress Italy is here to take players back to the soft underbelly of Europe. The base game is launching alongside the Gustav Line and Rome to Victory DLCs. If Company of Heroes 3 left you with a taste for some Italian action, then it doesn’t get any better than this. Read my impressions on the series below, but if you want a TLDR then it’s simple: it’s the best WWII series available.

To celebrate the Home of Wargamers, Matrix announced a Combat Mission Grand Tournament, starting September 25th.

Valor & Victory: Kursk and Pacific

The fourth DLC for Valor & Victory is now available. Kursk is taking the war to the Eastern Front with 10 new maps focused on the titular battle. The next DLC will go further East, to the jungles of the Pacific, with Japan and China joining the ever-growing list of factions available in the game.

Flashpoint Campaigns – Central Storm DLC

Flashpoint Campaigns: Southern Storm is getting its first DLC: Central Storm. The expansion will cover the front lines around the city of Boon. It will feature a new playable Belgiam army, 19 new maps set in central Germany (with mostly flat terrain), 18 new standalone scenarios and two new campaigns featuring the Belgian I Corps, West German 7th Panzer Division, and Soviet 57th Guards Motor Rifle Division.

Nuclear War Simulator Free Updates

Ivan Stepanov takes the stage to explain what he’s been improving on his title, Nuclear War Simulator. He also announced a big update for the game to come out later this year simplifying the scenario creator, making it much easier for new users. Ivan will also introduce the possibility of creating objectives for the scenarios. The large database of previously available scenarios will be expanded to include new ones.

Rule The Waves 3 – Developer Interview

The lead developer of Rule The Waves 3, Willaim Miller went over the free updates the game has received since its launch, earlier in 2023. It was revealed that changes to the battle generator and text scaling are on the way and teased the first DLC, which will allow users to create custom battle scenarios and pre-made historical battles.

Command: Showcase – Operation Desert Falcon

Operation Desert Falcon is a Showcase for Command: Modern Operations that will put players in charge of the French air forces tasked with protecting civilians sheltering in an airfield, in Chad. You’ll be tasked with rescuing those civilians while making sure the enemies targeting the airfield are kept at arm’s length. It will be released during the first week of October.

I’ve been running Strategy and Wargaming at my own expense since 2017, with only the ad-revenue to cover for the hosting, with everything else being done by me. It’s thanks to the goodwill of videogame publishers like Slitherine, Hooded Horse, and others that I’m able to cover games prior to their releases.
