Strategy and Wargaming News – 23rd September – New Paradox IP Millennia, The Troop, Wargame Design Studios New Game

New Paradox Millennia Announced

Paradox is officially launching something that’s not DLC for their existing games! Millennia is the name of the historical turn-based 4X game that will take players across all of human history, from the dawn of civilization to space travel. Not a whole lot is currently known, but if the image illustrating this article is anything to go by (with what appears to be generic-looking World War II Wehrmacht soldiers atop what vaguely resembles an M4A3E2(76) Jumbo), then we can expect the usual a-historical, meme-worthy shenanigans that made Paradox so beloved. Here’s to hoping the game comes out and it’s good. I have had a 4X itch since Civilization IV that needs scratching. No release date was announced.

The Troop Coming Out Of Early Access

Often overlooked but very good World War II turn-based scuffler, The Troop is coming out of Early Access in a couple of weeks, on October 10. Tom Page, Studio Director is gleefully looking at the release date, affirming that “Development of The Troop has been a real labour of love for our small and passionate team, and we are excited to finally share the full game with strategy enthusiasts. Following our extensive early access period, we are delighted to reveal that the full release of The Troop will include a host of optional rule settings including overwatch and bocage shooting as well as the highly-requested Campaign mode featuring four campaigns.” The game will cost $39.99, £30.99 €33.99, depending on where you live.

If you happen to know any contact of the team behind it, let me know, because I would love to reach out for an interview.

Rise of the White Sun Out Now

Maestro Cinetik launched another beloved, instant cult classic named Rise Of The White Sun, a self described “giang strategy sandbox experience set in Warlord China”, that will have you navigating your way during the chaos that was early 20th century China. Borrowing this statement from the man itself “what sets this game apart is its unique focus on leading a loose clique of unreliable opium-addict warlords, commanding massive, unruly (and unpaid armies). There’s a demo available, and the game will set you back 18,89€ or your regional equivalent.

Wargame Design Studio Updates

The team at WDS is always busy. This wargaming Santa’s elves took a break to publish a new update on what they’ve been up to and here’s the rundown:

  • A new video released on the WDS YouTube Channel (the one above) going over the recent changes;
  •  A New Survey is being conducted regarding the way the team communicates with its customers – Fill it out, and give them help!
  •  A new Game in the Musket & Pike series is titled Thirty Years War. The team adds that by October more news can be expected.
  •  Call for playtesters for up-and-coming videogames. Be aware, however, that this is quite the commitment. Complete at least 10 playthroughs and reports and you’ll feature in the credits and receive a free copy of the game upon its release. Send them an email at HelpDesk@wargameds.com

Broken Arrow New Trailer

Slitherine’s up-and-coming mix between World In Conflict and Wargame: Red Dragon, Broken Arrow released a new trailer showcasing its deck customization features, and a couple of other news: A new closed beta is set to come in the following months; A lot of work was done optimizing the game and improving its interface; And a reassurance that those longing for a good singleplayer experience won’t be let down by the direction of the game, “we initially distributed our efforts in such a way that in our game there was no bias in any direction and there was a balance between the popular single player and multiplayer. For the lion’s share of players who avoid multiplayer we have prepared several ways to have fun, from full-fledge atmospheric single-player campaigns to cooperative modes with high replay value”, said the team.

Diesel Railcar Simulator Scenario Update

Were you aware of the fact that Diesel Railcar Simulator, one of the most relaxing videogames out there (especially when played in full simulator mode)is continuously getting new scenario updates? Just a public service announcement, in case you have the game and haven’t booted it for a while.

Slitherine Eyeing TIGA Awards

Videogame awards are, most of the time, a massive joke and absolutely useless. Nevertheless, we all love them, if not for their entertaining value, for the bias confirmation they offer. Slitherine is going into the TIGA awards uncontested on the Best Strategy Game with Starship Troopers: Terran Command, with the second best game- and I use “best” very losely in this context- being One Military Camp.

Command: Modern Operations might have a hard time winning Best Education, Serior or Simulation Game, because it’s going against Powerwash Simulator (which is so, so satisfying to play), and Stranded: Alien Dawn (maybe it was misplaced in this category?).

I’ve been running Strategy and Wargaming at my own expense since 2017, with only the ad-revenue to cover for the hosting, with everything else being done by me. It’s thanks to the goodwill of video game publishers like Slitherine, Hooded Horse, and others that I’m able to cover games prior to their releases.
