As the sole word masher of OneHex it is my pleasure to announce that during 2021 all of you hex aficionados, counter-wranglers and dice-throwing pundits will be trickle-drizzled with content, at least once a week!

Weekly News Column- This is something I’ve been wanting to try for a long time now. I love writing news, not as much as other more complex content but I do and I wish to do so with snarky comments, colourful language and comedic intent. So I’ve been considering putting out a weekly column that reviews what took place in this strategy gaming corner we inhabit. Now all I need is a fancy name. “Bloody Sunday”? No, too cringe. “Weekly Patch”? Maaaaybe… How about something radio related? “What’s your weekly status”? “Weekly Express?” “Weeklong Post Office?” “Weekly Parcel” “Weekly Supply Point” Ahhhhhh! So many choices.

History Related Content– OneHex was given birth by myself in a very special moment of my life when I wished to read more and explore the relationship between History and Videogames, but weirdly enough the mix is scarcely covered and written about. A few theories arose as to why such a match made in heaven is rarely featured in most mainstream gaming media. Video Games sometimes cover large swaths of World History and usually explore those moments in multifaceted ways, each of which requires some in-depth knowledge to truly make for an interesting article. As a former journalist myself I know how hard it ist to juggle instant, pressing matters and shape them into news while investigating, interviewing and researching new topics for more documentary-like pieces. One of my main goals with OneHexAway has always been to explore the symbiotic relationship between Videogames and History so in 2021 I hope take a deeper dive and go back to finish writing part 2 of my essay on Engaging with History Through Video Games (Check out part 1 if you haven’t read it yet).

Positivity is key– If you’ve read more than a couple of posts here you might have noticed a trend in my coverage of games. I rarely portray video games in a negative fashion and when I do, it is because I set out on blindly going for a first impression and it clearly disappointed me. Even then, I try and spin the wheels of fate into a least negative outcome. There’s one very special reason for this: I don’t have enough time in my day to waste playing games I don’t enjoy just to lambast them online. It is much more pleasant to critique a game that is truly good and unique. Have in mind that, as one might expect while reading an online place that does its’ fair amount of reviews a year that negative aspects will be pointed out, explored and dissected.

Partnerships, maybe?– As with everything gaming-coverage related, access to information is paramount to output relevant content anywhere. Due to my busy schedule I struggle to keep track of all the information going around. Also given the fact that I have bills to pay and can’t afford to buy every single game I would love to get my hands on some press-preview copies on some of the games coming out. I don’t want freebies, I love buying my own games but some early access would go a long way to improve the kind of content I can create in OneHexAway. I would also love to interview veteran and up and coming developers so if, by chance, you happen to be one or work for a major wargaming publisher such as Slitherine or Matrix Games and want to come in contact please let me know at onehexaway@gmail.com.
