Strategy and Wargaming News- 23rd April – Combat Mission Cold War, WinSPMBT, Home of Wargamers, Typhoon Raising DLC

Fridays are for relaxing, sipping a drink and reading news at the Strategy and Wargaming Inn where both genres overlap each other more than a Tiger’s Schachtellaufwerk. This is the place where virtual draftees get maimed and killed to satisfy warmongering cravings and entertaining and content worthy paragraphs are as rare has a useful late-war German tanks. Last week column was cancelled (no, not in that way, I’m afraid). But SaW news is back and was ready for some Cold War action but enthusiastic ideas of spitting javelins across Germany was cut short.

Combat Mission Cold War delayed

Armoured clashes across the Fulda Gap will have to wait until early June as Battlefront finishes implementing the PBEM (Play By E-Mail) system. If you’ve been living inside a cabin in the woods and have no access to the internet and are reading this for the first time:

Combat Mission Cold War is the newest standalone game in the Combat Mission series. It is set in the tipping-point years of a conflict that gripped the world for 45 years. Between 1979-1982, both the NATO and Soviet Warsaw Pact militaries began the shift away from industrialized warfare of the early 20th century and towards the modern digital battlefield of today. Combat Mission Cold War simulates several “what if” conflict scenarios between US and Soviet forces centered on the strategic Fulda Gap and environs in West Germany”.

WinSPMBT gets consolidation patch, updated to version 15.0

Vintage is the new new and Steel Panthers: Main Battle Tank gets another update, a quarter of a century later after it first came out. We’re not talking about bug fixes and minor improvements, no sir. It’s an actual meaningful free expansion: 2 New Scenarios; 32 Revised/Updated Scenarios; 1 New Campaigns; 2 Revised/Updated Campaigns; 26 New or Revised Map files; 77 New or Revised OOB Photos; 47 New or Revised vehicle/aircraft Icons; 93 Updated OOB Files; 15 New or Revised Icon files; 104 New or Revised Text files. Even 25 years later, WinSPMBT is still a complex, content rich wargame offering hundreds of scenarios, units and one of the most comprehensive list of warring nations from 1946 to 2020, allowing grognards and history buffs everywhere to recreate even the most obscure, regional conflict they can imagine. I’m would gladly recommend the premium version, which is worthy for the HD feature alone. Just have in mind that, after you get buy the game you can only downloaded for 10 days, better have an external HDD or hope that your PC doesn’t die on you. If you lost the file then it’s though luck for you.

Would you like to know more? New Starship Troopers Terran Command gameplay

Slitherine is embracing the outlandish and cheesy nature of Starship Troopers. The bugs are attacking and it’s up to the Mobile Infantry to defend the planet Qualasha against the alien menace. As the live feed of the battle goes on, it’s clear that the Mobile Infantry grunts are going to forfeit their lives after boasting about the Federation incredible military ingenuity until the transmission is abruptly cut off. Love it.

Home of Wargamers 2021 Live+

What’s the need to call something “Live+”? What does it mean? What’s the point? Anyway, in the 11th day of May, Slitherine is going to unveil 4 of their 15 unannounced games and showcase Warhammer 40.000 Battlesector, Starship Troopers: Terran Command, and Distant Worlds 2. I’ve taken a good, long look at Battlesector and found myself totally enamored with the game, read more here.

Free vehicles for Tank Mechanic Simulator

Time spent within TMS is rarely time wasted. Between digging up steel carcasses of a time gone-by, polishing and refurbishing interiors, applying primer and disassembling transmissions and engines, you’re either entertained or learning. Most of the time, wannabe mechanics are realizing how ridiculously complex (or otherwise, I’m looking at you, Russians) some of these tracked beauties were.

  1. Still not convinced to buy Rome 1 again. That DLC of Graviteam looks great, early scenarios are the greatest.
