Carrier Command 2 and Regiments playable next week on Steam Games Festival

You want to know the hardest part of writing news on the fly? Coming up with interestingly written paragraphs to hook readers from the get-go. Every book on creative writing will spell that out for you in meticulous, boring detail. I’m just rambling because I really can’t think of anything smart to write about Carrier Command 2 and Regiments, two of the multitude of games MicroProse has in development right now. Check out the trailers below if you’re wanting to know more about them.

Me, personally, I’m more interested in playing Regiments. It closely resembles Eugen System Wargame franchise. In theory, a game made in heaven, in practice, a hellish click-fest demanding more brain power and eye to hand coordination than what’s available to me. The demo for Regiments will include 2 playable maps, 3 skirmish modes (Meeting Engagement, Attack, Mobile Defense) and 4 regiments, with US, USSR, East and West Germanies getting one each. Cold War amateurs can also engage with the tutorial.

Here’s hoping Regiments takes the slower route, MicroProse sure seems like they are focusing on it with their latest newsletter clearly stating “The Platoon Command system lets you orchestrate battles with unprecedented precision and ease. No need to micromanage every infantryman – you’re a Commanding Officer, not a sergeant”. We’ll find more about it in the next week.

Carrier Command 2 demo is going to be a stripped-down version of the game with 4 island (the full campaign has 64).

Steam Games Festival will start on the 16th of June and last until the 22nd.
