Modern Naval Warfare
Modern Naval Warfare will put players at the helm of the newest generation of the nuclear SSN-774 Virginia- class submarines in the complex battlefields of the 21st century across more than a million square kilometers of intricate and highly detailed underwater terrain. The technology on display during the Home of Wargamers Live + last December did enough to convince me that Modern Naval Warfare is aiming higher than the end-user market and will be, most likely, going after military contracts in the future.
There’s still no definitive release date announced but the development team is aiming for a 2022 release.
Gunner, HEAT, PC!
Honestly speaking, when I first heard of Gunner, HEAT, PC! and its ambitions I ditched it with a scoff as nothing else than wishful thinking from the development team. Fast forward to the last couple of months of 2021 and the half-baked playable demo of 2019 is now a delicious and crunchy cookie with chocolate chips sprinkled on top. Jokes aside, Gunner, HEAT, PC! is taking commercial-level armored simulation into the 21st century. Realistic physics, true-to-life damage models, a powerful replay tool, easy to control tracked monsters, a clean UI, and unmatched visual fidelity will -hopefully – give Steel Beasts Pro a run for its money.
Shell flinging activity between NATO and Warsaw Pact forces is expected to take place during the summer season of 2022.
Destroyer: The U-Boat Hunter
Destroyer: The U-Boat Hunter is taking a route never seen before in a game like this. It’s going the route of “an interactive war thriller which seamlessly blends tactical WW2 anti-submarine warfare simulation with a gripping storyline” and virtual captains will take the helm of a Fletcher-class destroyer against the german wolfpacks in the Atlantic.
Uboat Commander
The only reason I’m listing Uboat Commander here is that there’s an Atlantic size hole in the genre and other than UBOAT (a game that’s fantastic, by the way), there are not a lot of choices for want-to-be seawolves (there’s going to be an option for landlubbers instead called Uboat Mechanic Simulator, because of course there is) and due to the fact it’s aiming to be more of a strategy game rather than a u-boat simulator and that might be an interesting take if done correctly, but to me, personally, the fun of submarine games is on the details and moment to moment decision, and how every little choice made during gameplay can make the difference between a successful mission and a watery grave and I don’t know how well those details will translate to a more classical, RTS style of game, but hey. You know me, if it’s novel and fun, I’ll give it a go and endorse it.
Uboat Commander is set to come out sometime during the third quarter of 2022.
